Origin of the “Philosophies of Men…” Statement?

I have done a little google searching, and it seems that the familiar phrase “The Philosophies of Men Mingled with Scripture” is an original phrase from the endowment.  Is this the case?  Does anyone have an earlier source for this phrase?

Actually, I believe it was an editorial insertion in the mid-1900’s. I don’t think it goes back to JS.

    That would not surprise me.

It probably comes from this Bible verse.

The phrase is not in the 1931 Endowment available on the web.

The earliest the phrase was used in General Conference appears to be October 1973 by Hartman Rector, Jr. See Hartman Rector Jr., “You Shall Receive the Spirit,” Ensign, January 1974, 105. He uses the phrase but doesn’t make reference to any particular source.

Thanks for the input so far. This is making me more certain that this phrase is a uniquely Mormon phrase that is relatively recent.

I posted the scripture reference from which it likely came, but it apparently got lost in spam.

But hey, it posted twice for me this time to make it up. *insert eye roll*

I resqued your comment from spam. That is a great scripture reference to bring up, although it does not really capture the mingling aspect. Thanks for the link.
